He called on a Tuesday about something unrelated, and we talked for an hour. Nothing is fixed. But the line is open.”

“I could not sleep for weeks after the diagnosis. Someone taught me to sit up, turn on one small light, and say the fear out loud instead of letting it circle. I felt ridiculous. It also worked — not because the fear left, but because it finally had a shape, and I could hand a shape to God. I also finally called a doctor, which I should have done months earlier.”
Getting started
“I had never prayed on my own in my life. I thought there was a vocabulary I did not have. Someone told me to say one true sentence out loud, so I said "God, I do not know how to do this." That was fourteen months ago and I have not missed many mornings since.”
